We’re keeping the clever techniques coming for our series of pro tips for house painters. Give these tips a try to get your paint job done quickly and cleanly.
No Need to Tape Windows: It’s common practice to use tape on glass windows when painting sills and sashes, but it’s just not necessary. Just take care and when the inevitable splashes get on the glass, let them dry. You can easily scrape the paint off with a razor blade. Do avoid cutting a gap in the paint between the wood and the glass, as it will allow moisture to enter and lead to rot.
Flatten Painter’s Tape: For those areas where you are using painter’s tape, take care when applying it. Any wrinkles or gaps may allow paint to drip in that will require scraping later. Ensure proper adhesion by running a putty knife over the top to create a proper seal.
Create a Channel for Paint Against Textured Ceilings: It’s a real challenge painting the top edge of a wall topped by a bumpy textured ceiling. It’s easy for stray bristles to catch the protrusions and leave unwanted paint on the ceiling. Luckily, there’s an even easier fix: Drag a screwdriver along the top of the wall to remove the most endangered lumps and create a tiny ridge that will naturally direct the bristles. You’ll be able to make a flawless join and the alteration will be completely concealed by the paint.
