Today we’re sharing some more of our favorite pro tips for house painters around Denver who’d like to master their interior painting skills. Here are some more guidelines to follow that will make your interior painting job go smoothly.

Don’t Just Clean, Degrease: When a surface is truly grimy, a simple wash with hot water won’t be enough. Paint doesn’t bond easily to greasy surfaces, so scuffed walls and muddy entry areas should be treated with a degreaser for proper adhesion. Just be careful and be sure to protect hands an eyes from this powerful chemical.

Finish a Wall Before Starting the Next: It’s tempting to start with the difficult corner and trim areas for an interior painting project and then get down to the big open spaces. Don’t give in to that temptation. If the brushed detail work dries before the roller paint, it won’t blend well and the result will be a visible difference. Since you’ll be switching between rollers and brushes repeatedly, cover buckets or trays not in use with a damp cloth to prevent paint and tools from drying out.

Plan to Sand: If you’re planning to paint, you’d better plan to sand first. A perfectly smooth surface is the best place to start a painting project, and sanding will get rid of protruding spackle, ridged nail holes, and other rough spots. A sanding pole is an excellent tool for reaching the top of the wall, while a sanding sponge will navigate crevices.
