When it comes to trusting a company with the tasks of painting, flooring, or roofing your building, it is important to understand the ins and outs of both manufacturer and contractor warranties. Learning about the guarantees and assurances that are provided by companies you are working with is a good idea before starting any home improvement project. Knowing what your warranty is and does will end up saving you money in the long run.

Painting, flooring, and roofing are all key elements of a comfortable and personalized home. Your walls, floors, and roofs are spaces for individual and artistic expression. In addition, they are also structural backbones of your home. At Zenith Painting and Coatings, we will walk you through the process to ensure you know the terms and conditions of your purchase.

Manufacturer Warranty vs Contractor Warranty

[/text_divider]

A common consumer oversight is the difference between a manufacturer warranty and a contractor warranty. Although both types of warranties are important, they work in different and specific capacities.

Manufacturer Warranty

Manufacturer warranties cover defected products but will not cover problems caused by improper installation and workmanship.  A couple of examples of this would be:

  • Paint peeling
  • Floors cracking
  • Shingles breaking

If you are experiencing any of these problems in your home, it is a good idea to call your roof’s manufacturer.

Most of the time these issues will be covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, but there are circumstances when they may not be. Difficulties can come up if the product’s specific installation and maintenance instructions are not followed precisely. If the procedures are not followed correctly, it may leave you ineligible under the terms of the manufacturer warranty. This is where you would need to contact the company who performed installation.

Contractor Warranty

A contractor warranty will cover faulty workmanship, unlike the manufacturer’s warranty.  It may also cover damaged products that the manufacturer refuses to replace based off poor installation. Some of the problems that fit into the coverage of a contractor warranty are:

  • Uneven paint
  • Floor boards separating
  • Shingles falling off your roof

If you notice any of these issues immediately contact a licensed professional to assess the damage.
