Stucco Repairing, Cleaning, and Painting

Stucco is a popular building material: It’s durable, economical, and easy to apply. Unfortunately, it also requires regular maintenance and can be a challenge to repaint. Zenith Painting provides expert stucco painting and repair to homes and businesses in the Denver area, and this is how we do it.

Stucco Repair

Age and moisture will eventually crack and fade even the most careful application of stucco. While tiny hairline cracks can easily be painted over, anything wider will continue to expand if left untreated. Elastomeric or urethane sealant is used to cover larger cracks, but serious issues like loose framing will require more treatment than a simple coat of paint or sealant.

If you’re looking to repair stucco on your own, keep in mind that sealant must be allowed time to dry and set properly. Too much heat or too little moisture will result in a weak seal. Sloppy repairs will quickly degrade and leave the building vulnerable to water damage.

It also requires some patience and skill to blend the stucco patching compound with the texture of the existing surface. Careful attention while applying two coats of compound will achieve the best results.

Stucco Cleaning

Stucco requires more care when power washing than most surfaces. Crumbling stucco may require some masonry work, but this is a normal part of the process and preferable to allowing the stucco to continue decaying. In fact, it’s a good idea to use a wire brush to scrape away damaged areas and then follow up with a light power wash.

This will wash away grease, mildew, and dust from the stucco and leave a clean, freshly restored surface ready for painting.

Stucco Painting

Acrylic latex paint specifically designed for use on stucco is a sound choice, as are elastomeric coatings for superior durability. It’s important to begin by caulking around windows, doors, and other protruding features, then use painter’s tape and drop cloths to protect edges and landscaping elements.

As with applying patching compound, color matching to blend with the existing surface is a challenge, but Zenith Painting’s color consultants are happy to bring their insight to your color scheme.

In fact, Zenith Painting is happy to take on the entire stucco painting or repair project for you. Give Zenith a call at 800-381-4601 for a free quote or consultation on your options for stucco cleaning and restoration.
