What to expect from Zenith Home Finishes’s professional painting team

At Zenith Home Finishes, the painting process has been tried and true for years, gaining the trust of loyal customers to receive a long-lasting paint job. It is a lengthy process broken down to simple steps that ultimately makes Zenith’s team of professional painters the best in Colorado for residential and commercial projects.

When Zenith Paints

During the winter season, Zenith takes advantage of the cool air to cure paint quickly and to save time for your summer projects by finishing the interior project first. Zenith suggests painting the exterior of a building in the fall or spring when temperatures are moderate and the weather isn’t too hot or too cold. Scientifically the ideal temperature range for latex paint is from 50° to 80°F because of its thermoplastic characteristics. If the weather is too hot, it will cause the latex paint to dry too quickly, resulting in brush marks and clumps of paint on the brush. On the other spectrum, cold weather will not allow the paint to not bond well to the surface, resulting in cracking and peeling.

Painting Estimate

Zenith Home Finishes will work with you to ensure all questions have been answered and that together, the best painting solution will be selected for your needs. Once an initial inspection is conducted, Zenith creates a personalized and detailed estimate of the work to be done. In this estimate, the scope of work as well as the details of the paints to be used for each part of the house, will be outlined. The pricing is broken down by each segment of the project and it will include any special instructions from you to our painting crew. Keep an eye out for special discounts that can be applied to the initial estimate.

Paint Lead Testing

To help protect our loved ones and the environment, Zenith conducts free paint lead testing in your existing paint. If the home was built before 1978, it likely has lead based paint and Zenith wants to reassure both you and the team will be safe. Zenith Home Finishes is Lead – Safe Certified by the EPA and qualified to prep and paint your home. Zenith avoids any Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) which are chemicals that release into the air when paint dries. It isn’t safe to breath VOCs for both humans and the environment.

Selecting Paint

Zenith Home Finishes uses professional paint from Sherwin-Williams, Guiry’s, and Hirshfield’s. First and foremost, they select a powerful primer since it will affect the appearance of the topcoat. Primers are formulated to establish a solid, even base and to ensure that the topcoats of paint apply smoothly and bond securely to the surface. A typical homeowner may go for a latex primer but the Zenith pros rely on alcohol and alkyd primers because they bond to almost everything.

After a primer is selected, quality paint will be used next. In general, higher sheen paints are more stain-resistant and easier to clean but it also highlights any imperfections in the wall or in the paint job. When it comes to ceilings and formal rooms, Zenith recommends flat paint but for most customers with kids, an eggshell gloss will save you a lifetime of trouble and cleaning.

Prep for Painting

Zenith will clear the decks and that means moving everything out of the room. A few drops of paint can take over the floor or furniture if not properly covered. Zenith lays down quality drop cloths, such as canvas or paper-backed plastic for easy clean up. Otherwise, paint will soak through lightweight fabrics and bedsheets. Plastic sheets are always an option but it is very slippery and doesn’t absorb drips that can be tracked throughout the house.

Prepping the walls is the most important step of any painting project. Zenith will power wash, scrape, caulk, and prime all necessary areas of your home prior to applying a fresh coat of paint. This will determine the durability and longevity of a paint job Zenith is recognized for.
